Since
1992 the Institute for Bird Populations (IBP), through the Monitoring
Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) program, and in partnership
with the US Forest Service (USFS), has operated long-term bird banding
stations within six forests of the
USFS Pacific Northwest Region Six (WA and OR). Six stations
operated on each national forest to monitor the landbird communities
of different forest-dominated landscapes (download station
map or Google
Earth file).
In addition to IBP's MAPS operations (red dots below),
a network of independent station (black dots) operators (state,
federal, academic, and private organizations and individuals) participate
in MAPS monitoring and contribute their data to the continent-wide
database.
