Background - Fremont-Winema
NF, is located on the east side of the Cascades in Southern Oregon
between the Cascade Mountain Range and Crater Lake National Park to
the west and Klamath River Basin to the east. The northern portion features
extensive stands of ponderosa and lodgepole pine.
This forest lies on the western edge of the NABCI Great
Basin Bird Conservation Region (BCR9)
with one station in the Northern Pacific Rainforest Bird Conservation
Region (BCR5) and is
covered by the PIF Conservation Strategy for Landbirds of the East-slope
of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington (PDF).
MAPS stations are located primarily in coniferous forest with a riparian
or meadow (or clearcut gap) component (Google
Earth image).
