IBP
collaborates with wildlife biologists and regional avian program
coordinators in the US Forest Service to monitor bird populations
on multiple national forests, especially in the Pacific Northwest.
Continent-wide 167 MAPS stations (of a total of 1,040; 16%) have
operated on Forest Service land. Here we provide a Google Earth
layer of those stations (KMZ)
- Google Earth application required.
These data provide trend and population
performance parameters that can be compared to regional estimates
to assess the population status of forest-dwelling landbirds. In
addition, we provide population management guidelines intended to
help forest biologists maintain forested landscapes that support
source populations of landbirds of conservation concern.
Pacific
Northwest Region Six Results - long-term MAPS monitoring has
been conducted by IBP on six Forest Service properties in collaboration
with the USFS Pacific Northwest Region Six.
IBP secured funding from the Forest
Service Pacific Northwest Region to combine MAPS data from
Klamath Bird Observatory (KBO), Redwood
Sciences Laboratory (RSL) and other MAPS operators for
the analysis of MAPS data towards providing management guidelines
and information on birds and climate/weather for the (Research
Prospectus).
