MAPSPROG

Bandit FUNCTIONALITY IS HERE!!!!
Yes, that's right - you can export a file from within MAPSPROG Version 4.2.1 which can be imported directly into Bandit version 1.03 or 2.01. To create the export file within MAPSPROG, select "Create file for Bandit" from the "Utilities" drop-down menu. Step-by-step instructions for how to import the MAPSPROG-produced file into Bandit can be found right here.

Troubleshooting MAPSPROG
If you encounter problems downloading, installing, or using MAPSPROG, check the MAPSPROG FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) page. This page will be regularly updated with commonly asked questions and solutions regarding MAPSPROG.

CURRENT UPDATE: MAPSPROG VERSION 4.2.1
(released 12/06/2007)

Fixes all known issues with MAPSPROG. This update is for Version 3.5.2 or higher only - you must have Version 3.5.x, 3.6, 3.7x, 3.8.x, 4.0.x, or 4.1.x installed for this update to work (the first line under the Utilities menu should say "Version 3.5.2", "Version 3.5.3", etc.). If you have an older version, or you do not know which version is installed, click here to go to the instructions to download and install the Complete MAPSPROG Version 4.2.1 package.

These files are quite large, and may take a while to download. If you have a slow internet connection, or are having difficulty downloading a file, contact IBP to receive a copy of the program, update, and/or manual on CD.

Follow these steps to download and install the Version 4.2.1 Update:

  1. Double-click on the Version 4.2.1 Update link below, select "Save," and save the MPRG421U.zip file to your desktop, or to any directory EXCEPT the directory where you have already installed MAPSPROG (this is usually C:\IBP).
  2. Use a zipping software (we recommend WINZIP) to extract the files. Extract the files to any directory EXCEPT the directory where you have already installed MAPSPROG.
  3. Double-click on the "SETUP.EXE" file, and enter the path to the directory where you have already installed MAPSPROG.

MAPSPROG MANUAL

Note: MAPSPROG Version 4.2.1 is functionally very similar to Version 4.1. The only subtantial change in this version is a new menu item in the "Utilities" menu which allows the production of an export file which can be directly imported into Bandit. All other changes to MAPSPROG involved error-correction. Thus, no Version 4.2.1 Manual has been produced - please continue to use the Version 4.1 Manual. Instructions on how to import the MAPSPROG-produced file into Bandit will be available on this page shortly.

Note: In order to make the screenshots embedded in the MAPSPROG Manual more legible, we have created PDF files that are substantially larger than those posted for previous versions. If you have a dial-up connection or otherwise have difficulty downloading these files, please contact Danielle Kaschube at dkaschube@birdpop.org or 609-625-0767and request the Manual be sent to you on CD.

Download the entire MAPSPROG 4.1 User's Guide and Manual here (This file is compressed; you will need to download the file and extract the manual using zipping software). This is a VERY large file (6.2MB) and will take a long time to download.

ALTERNATIVELY, you may download the Manual in six sections:
     Introduction (pp. 1-14) (138KB)
Banding and Effort Data Entry (pp. 15-72) (2.6MB)
     Within- and Between-record Verification (pp. 73-104) (1.6MB)
     BSL Module (pp. 105-130) (2.0MB)
     HSA Module (pp. 131-148) (1.1MB)
     Appendices (pp. 149-172) (134KB)

Importing MAPSPROG data into Band Manager
NOTE: The Bird Banding Lab released a new program, Bandit, for entry and submission of banding data in 2006, however they are still accepting data submitted through Band Manager. MAPSPROG Version 4.2.1 produces an output file for Bandit (see above), but an export file for Band Manager can also still be produced.
Al Sherkow has kindly allowed us to post the instructions he prepared for importing MAPSPROG data into Band Manager.  The instructions posted below were revised by Al Sherkow and Nicole Michel October 31, 2005 and cover MAPSPROG Versions 4.0+ and Band Manager version 2.1. Note: you must use the "Export<yr>.dbf" file created through the "Create file for Band Manager" step (on MAPSPROG's Utilities menu), not the <LOCA><YR> file, when importing data into Band Manager (unless importing recapture data or data from multiple years - please review these instructions for details).
